5. Anabolic agent
6. Antiinflammatory
7. Antispasmodic

A 2002 study showed the following:
A meta-analysis published in March 2002 analysed data
from 21 randomised clinical trials lasting 4 to 48 weeks
and involving 3139 men with lower urinary tract
symptoms associated with BPH. Compared with placebo,
Saw Palmetto extract improved BPH symptoms, urinary
symptom scores and urinary flow measures. (Men taking
Saw Palmetto extract were nearly twice as likely to report
improvement in symptoms than men taking placebo.)
Compared with the drug finasteride (5-alpha reductase
inhibitor), Saw Palmetto extract produced similar
improvements in urinary symptom scores and peak urine
flow.
