Hayfever Gone

It’s Springtime Yay!   But for some of us springtime brings pollen & hay fever.  Avoidance for seasonal allergens is best, but it can often be difficult to avoid, due to where you live and work.  So below are some steps you can take to lessen your allergic response.

Low gastric/stomach juices/acid is commonly seen with those suffering from hay fever (allergic rhinitis).  When we do not have enough stomach acid or are on certain medications such as losec, our bodies cannot break our food down properly at mealtime and these incomplete portions of food can trick our body into thinking they are foreign matter invading and our bodies automatic response is to attack, leading to an allergic response.  Over time this leads to gut permeability (leaky gut syndrome) and lowered immunity and increases the likelihood of developing additional allergies.  So by healing our gut & digestion you help to lessen/stop the allergic reaction to pollens & grasses.

Lifestyle & dietary factors that decrease our immunity and efficient gut function:
Alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking, increased feelings of stress, white sugar, fried foods, MSG, fast food, microwaved foods, gluten, white flour, homogenised milk, aspartame, chemically preserved meats.

Foods that you can include in your diet to help lessen symptoms & improve health:
Cold water fish such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, flaxseed fibre, sunflower seeds, apple cider vinegar, probiotic yogurt, garlic, onions, pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, horseradish.

Drink plenty of fluid: water and herbal tea.  Along with the benefits from the herbs below, water itself helps to decrease mucus created by the allergic response:

Naturalus Chest Balm  (also very good for hayfever, sinuses, head cold)

Original:  Lavender, Frankincense, Eucalyptus, Thyme & Rosemary.
Stronger: Eycalyptus, Thyme, Rosemary, Wintergreen & Menthol Crystals.

A fantastic blend to either dab under the nose or morning & night or use as part of a nasal inhalation treatment.  Firstly you’ll need to get a pinch of sea salt and dissolve in nearly boiled water.  Once it has cooled, stir and put some of the saline mix onto a teaspoon and inhale up each nostril in turn.  Then get a bowl and place a finger dab of the Naturalus Chest Balm (of preferred mix) and pour nearly boiled water into bowl to dissolve.  Have a towel on hand big enough to cover your head and bowl so that you inhale the essential oil blend.  Remain under for at least 5 minutes or longer if you wish.  Repeat as often as able.

If you don’t have the time for nasal inhalations then make sure you have an essential oil burner at home or in your work room, failing that apply a few drops to a switched on light bulb.  Adding 2-5 drops of any of the following essential oils will help to relieve symptoms and make your day more enjoyable:
