Its name Matricaria may be related to Latin 'Mater' meaning mother and indicating to its use in the treatment of female reproductive disorders. The first wild growing plants of chamomile were introduced in field cultivation during the Neolithic period (9000-7000BC). Used in ancient Egypt, Greece & Rome. The Egyptians considered chamomile sacred due to its alleviating effects on temperatures and sunstrokes, it was thought to be a present of the God of the Sun.
