Ginger – Organic

Potted ginger plants were carried on local vessels travelling the maritime trade routes of the Indian Ocean and South China Sea in the 5th Century A.D. In the 16th Century it was introduced to Africa & the Caribbean. Ginger was used as an article of trade in the Roman Empire 2000yrs ago, being valued more for its medicinal qualities than as a cooking ingredient. At one stage in England, 1lb in weight of ginger was the equivalent to the cost of a sheep.

Ginger is a circulatory stimulant and digestive stimulant in Western traditional medicine. Circulatory stimulants increase the flow of blood through the tissues of the body which brings increased oxygen and nourishment to the tissues. Ginger is an ingredient in traditional Ayurvedic formulae included to enhance the absorption of the other components and distribution to all parts of the body.
