Its Latin name comes from "Mithridales Eupator, King of Pontus". The Common name Joe-pye Weed comes from a New England Indian Joy-Pye who became famous by curing typhus with Eupatorium purpureum. The root/rhizomes of E.purpureum are used medicinally to treat, its Active Constituents are:
