Gunpowder Green Tea

Gunpowder tea is a Chinese tea produced in the Zhejiang Province of China. Taking its English name from the fact that the tea resembles gunpowder grains. Each leaf is rolled into a small round pellet, exploding into a large leaf upon being steeped in hot water. Production of gunpowder green tea goes back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907AD). The leaves are withered, steamed, rolled and then dried. The rolling renders the leaves less susceptible to physical damage and breakage and allows them to retain more of their flavor and aroma.

Sencha Green Tea

Sencha Green Tea is a refreshing bittersweet tea. Fine, needle looking shape which are dark green in colour. Being grown in full sun this extra sunlight causes the theanine (the sweet tasting part) within to convert to the antioxidant catechins (the bitter tasting part) (EGCGs) which protect the plant (and us) from any damaging exposure to the suns UV rays. Sencha Green Tea has the highest amount of antioxidants (EGCGs) compared to all green teas, as well as containing good levels of vitamin C, E, B1, B2, B3, calcium, potassium & manganese.

The caffeine within green tea is kept in control by theanine, hence why green tea doesnt cause nervousness/excitability and creates a calm relaxed mind with increased cognitive performance, focus and energy. This in turn helps improve memory and general mood.

The catechins antioxidant activity is increased in Sencha due to its exposure to full sun. This extra antioxidant activity benefits us in many ways health wise as well, such as:
