In Asia peppermint signifies friendship & love when put in scrolls. Minthe was the daughter of the river God Cocytos. Hades fell in love with Minthe which made Goddess Persephone angry, so she killed Minthe & dismembered her. Hades scattered her remains from which mint plants grew up on, on a sunny hill to the east of Pylos in Messinia. Greeks & Romans would spread peppermint on the floor to stimulate their guests appetite. Mint wreaths were worn by Greeks & Romans to prevent hangovers. Now more commonly used as a flavouring agent in food, chewing gum, candy, beverages, toothpaste & mouthwashes.
